Sven Timm started his career in the early 1990ies as project manager of several environmental and health protection projects on the assessment and sanitation of contaminated sites (soil, groundwater, hazardous waste sites) in Germany, in Western/Eastern European countries as weil as in Israel, the Philippines, Russia and Ukraine. 

He joined DGUV in 1998 and served since then in various different management positions. A focus of his work is on information, communication and campaigning programmes and strategies in OSH. Nationally he is actually inter alia in charge for the co-operation of the inspection services of the German Social Accident lnsurance scheme on the regional level with the German state labour inspectorates. Since 1998 he is also in charge for European and international co-operation in prevention (EU COM, EUOSHA, IALI, ICOH, ILO, ISSA, WHO etc.) as weil as an expert in and leader of several international OSH projects.

Since the early 2000s he is a lecturer, trainer and senior expert for ISSA, ILO ITC, EU COM, T AIEX etc. At ISSA Mr. Timm is a member of the bureau of two prevention sections and he is one of the initiating supporters of the global Vision Zero prevention strategy. He already was a member of the IOC for the World Congress 2011 in Turkey. In 2014 he was the chief organiser of the “XX World Congress on Safety and Health at Work 2014” in Frankfurt, responsible for the whole congress implementation and financial management. Since2020 he is again a member of the International Organising Committee for the 23rd World Congress for Safety and Health at Work in Australia 2023 for the ISSA. 

Sven Timm graduated as a Geologist in Kiel; he completed post-graduate studies on Environmental Protection and lndustrial Hygiene in Berlin. He holds a PhD in Natural Sciences of the CAU Kiel in Germany.
